3 Ideas for a Newlywed New Year's Eve

Champagne corks will be popping and midnight kisses will be sweeter when New Year’s Eve rolls around. As 2016 peeks its head around the corner, you may be searching for some ideas to entertain yourself as a newly wedded couple.

You could certainly go the traditional route: dinner reservations in a bustling downtown restaurant, followed by a crowded and overpriced bar. In fact, it’s not a bad way to spend the night. But, you could think a little more non-traditionally and make the first New Year’s Eve as a married couple memorable. Take a look at these three ideas:

Cabin in the Woods

Instead of spending the night hailing an Uber car in the city, think about renting a cabin (alone or with a group of friends) and ring the in the New Year next to a fire with the people you care about the most. New Year’s Eve, in essence, is about starting a new chapter with the people closest to you, so make it more intimate. There are plenty of places within a short drive that have wonderful cabins with all the activities (dining, hiking, relaxing) you could want. Think about Asheville as a destination.

For a little more adventure, you can take a trip outside of the Southeast and try your hand at snow skiing… Just be prepared for some New Year’s bruises.

Game Night with Friends

Instead of meeting your friends out and about, invite them over for dinner and a game night. It’ll provide a more intimate scene for you and your friends -- some of whom may be new to you. What better way to get to know them than hosting them in your own home. The games don’t matter, but think of some that include the whole group: Apples to Apples, Cards Against Humanity, Pictionary or Uno are good places to start.

Think about doing a special cocktail to go along with the night. French 75s are always popular and go along with the champagne theme for the night.

Football Party

This may not be popular with all of your friends and family, but there is always good football on New Year’s Eve. You can tap into this and host a themed party, complete with all the tailgating food and drink. Feel free to class it up a bit with some champagne and oysters -- there’s no wrong way to go about it.

With the newly established college football playoff system, the games will be relevant and good, so all you need is a TV and some grub for you and your crew.
